Rhomberg Sersa is delighted to be named alongside the Iarnród Éireann - Irish Rail (IÉ) Track Delivery Unit (TDU) as winners of the Best Continuous Improvement in Productivity 2025.
The award was given for successfully completing seven ballast cleaning shifts and accompanying shifts. Until these works, the greatest number of consecutive ballast cleaning shifts was four.
The seven shift ballast cleaning from Limerick Junction to Charleville Down Road also included four shifts with tamper 744 as well as 2 HOBS trains and a number of RRVs. It was the longest site ever delivered across the Irish Rail network within a single weekend - and as a bonus, the 2.5 miles were handed back at 50mph.
The surprise award was presented at the Chief Civil Engineer (CCE) departments Continuous Improvement Day (CIG) at the end of November.
The CIG day gathers Irish Rail staff and contractors together to highlight successful projects from the past 11 months, as well as recognise individuals and companies for achievements. There is also a very strong focus on safety and its importance whilst working on the rail network.
The award was presented by Chief Civil Engineer Cathal Mangan, alongside CEO Mary Considine and Director of Infrastructure, Éamonn Ballance.
Huge thanks to everyone who planned and participated in the hugely successful series of shifts for which the award was given.
