New On Track Machines

New On Track Machines

Rhomberg Sersa Ireland (RSIE) has taken delivery of two new Geismar Inspection Cars.

The new Inspection Cars are owned by Irish Rail / Iarnród Eireann (IÉ) and will be operated and maintained by the RSIE team.

Last November team members from IÉ and RSIE travelled to the Geismar Factory in Parma, Italy, to assist wtih the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT). A FAT is standard procedure with a new machine and gives the opportunity to the new owner to raise any questions or concerns before the machine is shipped.

The purpose built Inspection Cars departed Italy on February 21st, arriving into Dublin Port a few days later.

They were transported by road to the IÉ Portlaoise Depot where they will remain while Irish Rail carries out the compliance process over the coming months.

This compliance process is a regulatory requirement and is carried out in conjunction with the Commission for Railway Regulation (CRR).

The new machines will be numbers 724 and 725.

Upon commissioning, the older Inspection Cars, numbers 721 and 722, will be retired.

The new Inspection Cars are just a small part of the major investment IÉ is making into the national rail network.
